Itunes problems with Windows 8.1 and Iphone 4S

I can't sync my Iphone 4 S to my Itunes.  I get the following error:  "This Iphone can not be used because the required software is not installed. Run the Itunes installer to remove itunes then install the 64bit version of Itunes."  I am running the 64 bit version.  Any suggestions???

If it is asking you to remove iTunes, try using the steps in the article below and make sure you uninstall all the related components in the order that it gives to insure that the issue gets resolved.
